The What’s and Whys?

By definition, “proxy” refers to a person or agency who has authority to act for another. So, taken literally, does that mean a “proxy server” acts in place of another server? Let’s check it out.

Ultimately yes, when using a proxy, the user is allowed to browse blocked websites via their browser using an unblocked website first. (The Proxy)

The web isn’t as free as it was once made to be but that will never stop people wanting what they can’t have. For example, individuals at work wanting to get to blocked websites such as popular social networks and pornography and students in school wanting to visit there favorite websites are often blocked by admins but filtering through a proxy allows them to do so. It is also well know for countries and ISP providers to block websites out using filters but these filters can be bypassed by using a proxy too.

A proxy also allows for anonymous browsing which to some people is important as keeping browsing history and important details secret is essential.

Available Scripts

In the world of proxies there are many different scripts available to use. Gathered from previous research, there happens to be those that you can pay for, and those that are distributed for free.

The two main free scripts used when building a proxy site are displayed below but even though these scripts are used to create proxy sites it is important to note that both are great in their own way and people use them with equal ease depending upon their needs. However, there are a few basic differences between the PHP Proxy and the CGI Proxy scripts, which are briefly listed below:

  1. CGI Proxy

CGI is considered to be faster than PHP proxy.

CGI uses a lot more server resources causing more CPU stress but requires a lot less bandwidth.

  1. PHP Proxy

PHP Proxy is easier to install as all it requires is a simple unpack and upload.

PHP Proxy uses low server resource reducing strain on the CPU but requires a lot more bandwidth

  1. Both

Both scripts allow for;

Tailoring so stress on the server can be played around with.

Multiple domain name use.

Text so that description and ads can be placed on the website

PSDproxies also encourage you to provide your opinions and is very gratefully for your input, If you feel we have missed something out or would like to make a comment please use the comment space provided below.
