Proxy Guide Part 2
Domain Names
Possibilities - .com .net .us .info .org …
The two top domain name registers are know as;
1. Go Daddy
2. 1and1
When choosing a domain name for your proxy it is important that you keep in mind several factors that relate to both a normal website and a proxy website. It is now well know that having words related to ‘Proxy’ are now easily and automatically filtered out by schools and corporations. This means buying a domain with the word proxy or anything similar in it will most likely already be blocked.
Therefore many people decide to use domain names that have no relevance towards the word proxy and instead depend on advertising bringing them traffic instead of the simple to remember name. You must always keep in mind the target market that the domain name may bring in. It is most likely that teenagers at school or people at work will be using the proxy most, therefore it is logical to pick a domain name that is easy to remember and short if possible.
Once you register your domain it is sensible to use the whois guard. This provides you, the proxy owner with detail privacy. A simple WHOIS search can be done on your domain to find out contact information such as your name, email and where you live. Do you really want this to be available to those who maybe using your proxy for criminal acts? No i didn’t think so. Therefore it is not only my recommendation but also extremely important to use this private whois function because in the long run, it could really save you from some hefty problems.
The following domains are some that i have used. As you can see, they vary in words which is just me testing out diffrent possbilites.
- http://www.linkstoswap.com - This was my first proxy, its where it all started off for me. Learning about all what im witting about. I managed to pull it off pretty well. I was averaging a good 10K unique a month with a pretty large newsletter being built up over time. All this ended when i sold it off, unfortunately the new owner has seemed to let it slip off a little.
- http://www.capeme.com - My second proxy, Capeme.com to me seems to have more of a potential than my first. This is because of the domain name. I managed to grab hold of this domain out of pure luck whilst just playing round at GoDaddy’s domain checker. To be honest, i have not really done much with it though. Over the next few weeks i plan to put in as much effort as possible into advertising and using diffrent methods to get things rolling.
I hope this post has provided you with a good basis on domain choosing for proxies. If you enjoyed this post, feel free to leave your own opinions and tips on domain choosing for proxies. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the info. I used 1and1 in the past and warn everybody to stay away from them. Horrible customer service and they lose credit cards numbers. I personally like godaddy.com and 2leaf.com.
